  • Cryptocoryne beckettii

    TN_Crypt_~_'Beckettii'
Cryptocoryne beckettii hasbeen one of the most popular aquaria plants for more than 60 years. Cryptocoryne beckettii is an amphibious plant and it grows very well submerged. Cryptocoryne beckettii is very adaptive to a wide range of watersthough it - like most other Cryptocorynes - prefers astable environment which small temporal variations inwater chemistry. It is absolutely most beautiful in groups though very variable in colours and morphology. Itis partly due to variation within the species but alsothe water, light and sediment influence the colour of theleaves.

An old name for this plant is Cryptocoryne lutea. It has a more rigid and upright structure than many other Cryptocorynes. Like other Cryptocorynes, it must be planted at intervals of a few centimetres. After about six months it will form a cohesive group. See other Cryptocorynes for further information.

    Cryptocoryne willisii

Cryptocoryne willisii is a perennial plant with deep green linear to egg-shaped leaves. It is amphibious and only the terrestrial plants get to flower. Cryptocoryne willisii is a rathersmall plant and spreads to thick turfy tufts in theaquarium. It proves a fine decoration together with othermore high growing Cryptocorynes such as Cryptocoryne beckettii. When growing by themselves reduce the water level and plant it in corners where detritus andother organic wastes tend to pile up - it benefits from such good nourishment. In contrast to some delicate Cryptocorynespecies diseases are rather rare. For several years this plant has wrongly been described as C. nevillii. However, C. nevillii does exists but it is rare and not suitable for the aquarium. For more information visit The Crypts Pages.
